An Invitation to Prayer
Bless the Lord, stars of heaven,
sing to him and acclaim him gloriously forever.
-Bless the Lord, rain and dew,
sing to him and acclaim him gloriously forever.Daniel 3:63&64
O Lord, listen to my prayer,
consider my petition in your truth,
heed me in your justice.
Do not come to judgment with your servant
for no one alive is just before you.
My enemy was in pursuit of me
to level my life to the ground,
to imprison me in the darkness of the ancient dead.
And so my spirit grew anxious in me,
and my heart was troubled in me.
I remembered the old days,
and reminisced on all your deeds;
I considered the works of your hands.
I stretched out my hands to you-
my soul like parched land.
A reading adapted from Basil’s Homily on Psalm 14, sec. 5 cont
What is not factual must be denied; what is factual must be acknowledged with an affirmation. Try to speak the very truth of the matter using simple affirmation without entangling it in something else. Leave it to the skeptic to incur the damage from his lack of trust. It is both foolish and shameful to show yourself as skeptical and then claim that an oath can erase all doubt.
Remind me, Jesus, that affairs are not usually black or white, but swirling eddies of light and dark, otherwise why would one of you Spirit’s precious gifts be that of discernment?I Cor. 12:10 May the light that you breathed onto us, and into us, on that first Easter eveningJohn 20:22 always shine brightly in me so that I might judge accurately and justly; and then on me, so that I may be of useful service and guidance to others, and thus a sign of your presence.
