The Seventh Sunday
An Invitation to Prayer
Christ is risen from the dead,
trampling down death by death.
—And to those in the grave
Let God arise! Let his enemies be scattered,
and let those who hate him flee before him!
As smoke disappears, let them disappear;
like wax melts before fire,
so let sinners be wiped out before the face of God,
and let the just rejoice.
Let them be happy before God,
and exult in gladness.
Sing to God, make music to his name,
make way for him who rides the sunset.
His name is Lord,
rejoice before him—
tremble at his face:
the father of orphans,
and the advocate of widows,
yes, the God who is in his sanctuary.
From St. Basil’s Eucharistic Prayer
He ascended into heaven and took his place at the right hand of your majesty on high. He will return to render to all according to their works. He left u these memorials of his saving Passion—these gifts (of bread and wine) which we have set out here jut as he ordered us… he said, “Do this as my memorial. For as often as you eat this Bread and drink this Cup you proclaim my death and confess my resurrection.” And so, O Master, we remember his life-giving sufferings, his vivifying cross, his three–day burial, his resurrection from the dead, his ascension into heaven, and his enthronement at your right hand, O God and Father, as well as his awesome second coming.
This is the day of resurrection, may we all share in its brilliance, O Father. This is your Passover, for your Christ has brought us from death to life, from earth to heaven, and for this our hearts swell with a hymn of victory. Christ is risen from the dead! Amen! Alleluia!
