Holy Week Begins
An Invitation to Prayer
Rejoice, O city of Zion,
and dance for joy, O Church of God.
—Look, your king comes humbly and meekly,
and children welcome him in song.
Hosanna on high! Blessed is he who comes!
Open the gates of righteousness for me,
I will pas through them acclaiming the Lord.
This is the gate of the Lord,
the righteous enter through it.
I will acclaim you because you heard me,
and you have become my savior.
The stone which the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone.
This is the Lord’s doing,
and it is wonderful in our eyes.
This is the day the Lord has made,
let us exult and rejoice on it.
So save us, O Lord!
So prosper us, O Lord!
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
We bless you from the house of the Lord.
God is Lord and has revealed himself to us.
Come together to feast with boughs,
up to the horns of the altar.
You are my God and I will acknowledge you.
You are my God and I will extol you.
I will acknowledge you because you heard me
and you have become my salvation.
Acclaim the Lord, because he is good,
and his mercy is eternal.
Let me welcome you anew to my heart, O Jesus. Let me lay my Lenten efforts, as humble as they may be, along the path I hope you will tread toward me. Surely I did not do my best, but you are merciful. You gave a full day’s wage to the laborer who came at the end of the day. Give me the full day’s pay of grace as I hold out my hand to you in this most solemn of weeks, that of your saving Passion. Amen.
